The number of yearly scholarships and the amount of each one shall be determined by the amount of available funds.
The FECMC will grant a one-year scholarship to a Spanish-speaking individual for graduate studies in Journalism at an
accredited university in the United States, starting on the 2006-2007 academic year.
After successfully completing the first year, the student may apply for a second year. A second year scholarship may
be granted after reviewing the student's grade point average (minimum 3.0) and general performance.
The student must present proof of acceptance into a graduate journalism program and the conditions of his or her acceptance,
as well as documentation concerning the cost of the program.

Currently, the amount of the scholarship is $7,000 a year. Half of the annual scholarship funds will be given directly to
the student at the start of each semester. At the end of the first semester, if the performance and GPA are acceptable (3.0
or higher) and the student has abided by all the rules, the funds corresponding to the second semester will be released upon
presentation of the corresponding documents.
The scholarship will be withdawn immediately if the student's performance is not satisfactory: in addition to his passion
for journalism, Carlos M. Castaņeda was known for his passion for excellence.
The application deadline for the 2008-2009 academic year is
April 15, 2008. After this date no applications will be accepted.
