The Carlos M. Castañeda Educational Foundation, Inc.(FECMC) is a nonprofit corporation established under the laws of the State
of Florida.
MISSION
The mission of the FECMC is to continue the work to which Carlos M. Castañeda dedicated his life, promoting journalistic
excellence in the ethical, linguistic, technical and graphic aspects of his profession. Castañeda taught several generations
of journalists from the newsrooms where he worked, inspiring them with his enthusiasm and passion, to follow his example
and give the best of themselves.
Castañeda valued the education and training he received from the journalism schools in Havana and Missouri. For this reason,
the FECMC has established a graduate scholarship pogram for Spanish speaking students with the purpose of supporting the advancement
of Spanish language journalism, which was one of Castañeda's main concerns during his successful journalistic career.
OBJECTIVES
1) To promote excellence in journalism and freedom of expression.
2) To support the education and development of Spanish speaking journalists through a graduate scholarship program.
3) To promote learning and dialogue on ethics and excellence in journalism through workshops and seminars and to publish
books on the life and work of Carlos M. Castañeda in the hope that it will inspire current and future journalists in the pursuit
of excellence in their fields.
